The McCormack team proudly came together as major partners for this year’s Steps for Homeless Youth event at Albert Park hosted by the Property Industry Foundation, supporting an incredible cause and helping raise vital funds for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness across Victoria.
The annual event brings together the wider property and construction community, along with families, friends and supporters, to walk, run and rally behind The Haven Project: delivering safe, secure housing and brighter futures for vulnerable young people.
From runners and volunteers to supporters cheering from the sidelines, the entire McCormack crew showed up with energy, encouragement and a genuine commitment to making a difference.
Despite the chilly Melbourne start, conditions proved ideal on the day, with strong performances right across the team. McCormack secured podium finishes in the men’s and women’s 5km events, along with an impressive second place finish in the relay, but the biggest achievement was seeing everyone get behind one another and the cause itself.
There were plenty of standout moments throughout the morning. Abbey de Lange took out the women’s 5km event and as many may have already heard from the man himself – Elliot Willcocks took out the 10km race with a huge sprint finish over the final 100 metres. Annie Koiker backed up last year’s effort with another impressive performance, securing third place in the women’s 5km, while Zac Papacostas also finished third in the men’s event. The McCormack relay team of Simon Potter, Brae McCormack, April Woodward and Buddy Dempsey also delivered a standout performance, holding on to secure second place on the day.
Beyond the podium finishes, there were countless personal wins across the team. Michelle Win shaved an incredible 45 seconds per kilometre off her personal best time, while many others stepped outside their comfort zones to take part, support one another and contribute to the atmosphere that made the day so memorable.
A huge thank you also goes to our volunteers, led by Danielle Flood, whose efforts behind the scenes helped bring the day together and kept the energy high from start to finish.
Together, the event successfully raised $154,107, with funds contributing directly to youth homelessness initiatives across Victoria. We are proud to stand alongside the Property Industry Foundation and the wider industry in supporting meaningful change for vulnerable young people in our community.
