We recognise the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly in the construction industry, where many feel it’s easier to keep struggles to themselves. At McCormack, we’re committed to changing that by equipping our leaders with the tools to have meaningful conversations, identify behavioural changes, and create an environment that prioritises the well-being of our people.
To strengthen this commitment, we’re focused on fostering a year-round R U OK? culture. We encourage our staff to make use of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and the wide range of mental health and well-being courses available through our learning management system. These resources are designed to offer continuous support, helping individuals manage both personal and work-related challenges.
As part of R U OK? Day, our staff, clients, and contractors gathered for morning teas and BBQs across all our state branches. These events were more than just social gatherings—they created opportunities for open discussions around mental health and encouraged meaningful conversations. We understand that reaching out for help can feel daunting, but initiatives like R U OK? Day aim to inspire meaningful connections and provide an accessible way to check in on others. Whether it’s a casual chat over coffee or a conversation while working, these everyday interactions are vital to creating a supportive network within our teams.
By bringing these efforts together, we are building a culture where checking in on each other is second nature and every individual feels supported—not just on R U OK? Day, but throughout the year. Together, we are building a workplace where mental health is prioritised, and no one feels alone in their struggles.
