McCormack recently completed a design and construct fitout for the Killara Foundation’s new social enterprise café, Ngarrgu Djerring (Knowledge Together).
The McCormack team was honoured to support the Killara Foundation’s initiative, providing additional resources beyond the small business grant to ensure the project’s success. Collaborating with design consultants Studio 103, McCormack helped bring to life a vibrant café, beautifully crafted with room to grow. The exposed ceiling adds depth to the space, while a variety of furniture caters to different needs. Designed as a social hub, this space is ideal for storytelling, connection, and knowledge sharing.
This space is dedicated to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, offering life skills, mentoring, and support, with a focus on creating pathways to employment. The project became deeply meaningful for McCormack, recognising the café’s vital role in promoting cultural connection and personal growth. Ngarrgu Djerring is not just a place for coffee; it provides stability, practical skills, and cultural enrichment for Indigenous youth facing various challenges. By offering hands-on workplace experience, the café celebrates Indigenous heritage, incorporating native ingredients into its menu and highlighting the significance of its name. It will also showcase artwork by Aboriginal artists available for purchase and plans to offer cultural tourism experiences, further strengthening the community’s connection to Indigenous traditions.
The collective effort behind Ngarrgu Djerring fostered a strong sense of community, making it a truly special experience. Thank you to everyone involved in this project, it was inspiring to see everyone rally together for such a positive initiative.
Mark your calendars, the Ngarrgu Djerring café officially opens on October 1st. We encourage everyone to visit and support this remarkable venture. To learn more about the Killara Foundation, click here.
